Fall Prevention Workshop in Hospital

Elderly injuries are commonly related to fall incidents. Apart from safety facilities that assist elderly to achieve steady steps and balance, specific exercises can be done to train up their body cognitive function and muscle. Concerning elderly health service, our hospital team has arranged a "Fall Prevention Workshop" for nurses in Tseung Kwan O Hospital on 24th June 2010.

Train-the-Trainer: Fall Prevention Ambassadors

In order to promote fall prevention awareness and decrease the number of fall incidence in hospital and community, we gladly invited Dr. SY Ng to conduct Fall Prevention Workshop for nurses from various divisions in Tseung Kwan O Hospital - including O&T, A&E, Surgery and EDU etc. - who joined together to form a Fall Prevention Group, namely the Fall Prevention Ambassadors.

The workshop consists of theory and exercise sections. Dr. SY Ng introduced the underlying concepts of practical group exercise, focusing on training patient's muscle strength, balance and cognitive function. Right after the theory section, we moved away the chairs and got hands-on the exercise part. Games were actually integrated into the exercises to improve balance and cognitive functions.

The ambassadors enjoyed very much the exercises and games. We believe they would generously share and pass on the training program to their patients and the community.
